The emphasis is that the club be simple in structure, be free of the constraints and obligations of service clubs and involve members at a minimal cost. The Club is directed primarily to providing fellowship between members who are compatible with each other, and the opportunity for development of new friendships and interests.
Monthly meetings will usually include a guest speaker, a short business meeting with reports and updates, and a coffee break that allows for social time. Members take turns volunteering to bring scrumptious treats to enjoy with our coffee or tea.
Events have club members visit organizations or places, sports and social activities of every conceivable nature. Arising out of their membership activities there is a self-generating goodwill, a sense of belonging and a diverse background of interests, ensuring that PROBUS remains as a firmly established part of the community. Although the club itself is not involved in service work or fundraising, members of PROBUS clubs are perceived to be collectively but separately involved in a wide range of volunteer pursuits, even greater than most service clubs
Activities are organized by club members, examples being walking, biking, euchre, books, lunch groups, wine tasting, cooking and many more. The members themselves decide on the activities they choose to hold and the activities they choose to participate in.
Our group is popular and currently capped at 225, with an ongoing waitlist, but members on waitlist will receive regular newsletters and are invited to join us at events where space allows, to a maximum of 3 per year. In addition they are all invited to join us for our Annual Picnic in July, where they can mingle and find out more about our Club and its members.
Most members are fully retired, although some still work part time and a lot are very active in the community. To apply, email our membership committee at southcoastprobusclub227@gmail.com. All communication is done by email (eg. events and newsletters) and in person at our monthly meetings.
Our Club has "twinned" with a Club in New Zealand, and share news and newsletters with each other. Their contact details are:
